Chapter 8: George and Nico: Back in the Congo

Part Two: 

F: The Crystal Energy Cannon:

You get a total overview of this gigantic round cave as George enters it. Pay close attention to what you see.

 At the middle of the round floor of this spacious cave you saw a large round hole and around that hole you saw four "Wheel-shaped" devices, You also saw that from each of those 4 devices a yellow gutter goes to the round hole. You also saw, at the bottom of your screen, a control console on a round platform. After this video George is standing at the top of the cave, right in front of the entrance through which he entered from the cave.

Walk to the right and continue until George is at the front Device. George then stand at the side of the device. At the top left of your screen you see the exit from this room. A Pointed Bar protrudes from the front of the Device. The rear of the device is smooth and has holes and you see a yellow gutter in the floor that goes from the rear to the right. In 3 you now have the "gear" and in 4 the "eye". So examine this device with 4.

George says that a giant crystal is focused to the next room and that there are 4 smaller crystals in the round part of the device. Turn George to the left and walk towards that exit gate. As soon as you get close, the camera shows you a close-up of this gate. Above the gate there is a large round stone and in this stone you can see the Lightning Symbol carved. So call this gate the "Lightning Gate".

Turn George around again and then walk back, past the Device and then continue to the right. 

Just follow the yellow gutter to the right and George will automatically come to the round hole in the middle of the round room. 

Walk past the hole to the left.

You arrive at the next Device. From this device, blue / white energy flows to the hole. Just walk to the left until the camera position changes. You then see the hole with the 3 devices around it in 1 screen. Continue to the right side of the screen until George is behind the rear device. To the right you will see the Control Console on the round platform.

Walk towards the control console, turn George towards it and step onto the round platform so that George is against the control console. The camera now gives you a total overview of this room and you can now see all the devices. You now have the following symbols in the 4 circles of your ACTION MAP:

  • in 1 and in 2 a Turn Arrow
  • In 3 the "Gears"
  • In 4 the "Eye".

However, do NOT do anything just now. Just look at what you see. You see the Big Round Hole, in the middle of the round room. You can see all 4 devices that are located around the hole. These 4 Devices must be put TOGETHER into one large Device because together they form the large ENERGY CANNON. The best thing to do first is to number those 4 devices. Do that as follows:

The Device that is at the top right of the "Lightning Gate" is Device 1.
The Device that is at the bottom right of George, is Device 2.
The Device that is at the bottom left of George, is Device 3.
The Device that is directly opposite Device 2 on the top left is Device 4.

First I will explain what you must do here:

Blue / White energy now flows through the gutters FROM Device 4 to the round hole. There the Energy passes into a Crystal and that Crystal passes the Energy to the Crystal on the other side of the hole and as a result the energy flows further to Device 2. 

So the two crystals in the hole are always opposite each other and they are stuck on a ring that you can rotate, with the turning arrows in 1 and 2. So you can rotate the Crystals to Device 2 and 4 and to Device 1 and 3. By rotating the ring with the two crystals in the hole, you can you change the DIRECTION of the blue / white energy.

At this time, if you have not done anything at all, the blue / white energy flows from Device 4 TO Device 2. You also see, when you look at the Devices 2, 3 and 4, that they have a FLAT side and a side with PROTRUSIONS The intention is therefore that you get these 3 Devices to Device 1 with their PROTRUSION side to device 1 so that they click together. 

The order is as follows: First Device 2 must go to Device 1. Then Device 4 must go to Device 1. Finally Device 3 must go to Device 1. Device 1 is therefore the FRONT of the Cannon and Device 3 the back.

Let's just do it:

Bring  device 2 to device 1:

You stand at the Control Console and your Action Map has all the right symbols in 1, 2, 3 and 4.  You operate the consoles by pressing your number keys according the circles of the Action Map.  

The blue / white energy now flows FROM Device 4 to Device 2. So that is not good. The current must first be reversed so that Device 2 can go to the hole.

Press 1 once. The energy then goes FROM Device 1 TO Device 3. Press 1 again 1x. The energy now goes FROM Device 2 TO Device 4. Press 3. Device 2 now glides over the gutter to the round hole.

Device 2 must now be turned with its protrusion side to Device 1 and the flow direction of the energy must be FROM Device 3 TO Device 1.

Press 1 again 1x.  Device 2 now turns a quarter turn and is therefore with its protrusions facing Device 1 and the flow direction of the blue / white energy is now FROM Device 3 TO Device 1. Press 3. Device 2 now glides over the long channel to Device 1 and clicks onto it. Now name this whole thing Device 1.

Bring  device 4 to device 1:

So the energy must first go from device 4 to the round hole

Press 1 once. The energy then flows FROM Device 4 TO the hole. Press 3. Device 4 slides to the hole. Press 2 once. Device 4 turns a quarter turn and now points with its protrusion towards Device 1 and the energy flows FROM Device 3 TO Device 1. Press 3. Device 4 now slides to Device 1 and clicks onto it. Keep calling this whole thing Device 1.

Bring device 3 to device 1:

You can see that the current direction of the energy is still FROM Device 3 TO Device 1. But Device 3 faces Device 1 with the wrong side.

Press 3....... Device 3 slides to the hole. Press 2 twice....Device 3 turns a semicircle and is now pointing with its protrusion on Device 1. But the energy flow is now wrong. The energy now goes FROM DEVICE 1 TO DEVICE 3. So Device 3 must first go back to its starting position. Press 3. ......Device 3 slides back to its starting position. Then press 2 two times or press 1 one time. The flow direction of the energy is then FROM Device 3 TO Device 1. So press 3...... Device 3 slides back to the hole. Press 3....... Device 3 again slides to Device 1 and clicks onto it....It's  DONE

The camera now shows you the entire energy cannon in a nutshell. On the side of the front part, the pointer piece, you see a blue panel and then you see the blue / white energy beam coming out of the cannon and going through the Lightning Gate. 

Now turn George to the right and walk, with Right, to the right until about halfway between the console and the location of Device 2. Then turn George with Up in the direction of the cannon and now, with Up and then with Right, walk to the cannon and walk on to that Blue panel that is at the front side of the cannon. Stand straight in front of this panel and then press 4.

George tells you that with this panel you can reverse the direction of the beam. If all goes well, the cannon now "shoots" the beam through the "Lightning gate" ...... the beam is now a "Shooting beam". If, however, you press 3 on the panel then you change the direction of the beam ..... the beam then becomes a "Draw beam".

The beam is now a "Shooting beam" ... leave it like that .....Walk to and through the "Lightning Gate" and then walk to the bottom of the screen. LOADING. After the loading you walk to and through the next gate and George enters the

G: The Crystal Room:

This is a square room with a tiled floor. Follow the energy beam to the left. The energy beam goes to a crystal in a pole and is bent to the right by the crystal and then disappears to the right in the wall. We will first take a look at this room. From the pole, through which the energy beam bends to the right, you walk to the left. You see a kind of "tower" and you see even more of those Poles with Crystals. In the corner, behind that "tower",  you see a small console. Right behind that "tower" you see a "reddish" niche in the wall. Now stand in a spot in front of that "tower" so that you get the "gear" in 3 and the "eye" in 4.

Then look at  the "tower" with 4. George says that this is not a tower but a large Machine Part that has fallen down through the ceiling from above. 

George also says that in that reddish niche he sees a staircase but that this Machine Part blocks the staircase. 

The best thing to do is to examine this entire room. Walk from corner to corner. You'll  find out that there are 8 of those Crystal Poles in the room. Each of these posts has a ring that you can use to turn the post. If you stand in front of such a pole you will see the pole in Close-Up and you get a : turning arrow" in 1 and 3 and the "eye" in 4. Examine such a pole with 4

George says that there is a crystal at the top of the pole and that this crystal has a flat and a reflective side. That is the case with all 8 crystals.. 

When you have seen everything then return to the pole at the end of the energy beam. That pole directs the energy beam  to the right. However, do not go all the way to this pole but stand somewhere in the middle, so that you can see the Machine Part and the 5 crystal poles. We now have to make sure that the Energy Beam goes to the Machine Part so that this Machine Part will be pushed to the left wall. For this we have to send the Energy Beam, via a specific route via the Crystal Poles to the Machine Part. It is best to number all the 8 Crystal Poles as Pole 1 to Pole 8

The pole where the energy beam now ends up is Pole 1. Obliquely above left Pole 1, near the wall and therefore to the right in front of the Machine Part, is Pole 2. Obliquely left below pole 1, and therefore right in front of Pole 2, stand Pole 3.To the left of Pole 3 is Pole 4. Above Pole 4, and therefore right in front of the Machine Part, is Pole 5. There are still 3 crystal poles and these are at the bottom left corner. Diagonally left down of Pole 4 is Pole 6. On the left of Pole 6 stand Pole 7 at the wall. Right of Pole 7 and completely in the corner and therefore also to the left of Pole 4, stand Pole 8.

Now go to pole 1 and make sure that George stand are in front of pole 1 in Close-up. In 1 and 3 you get the turning arrows. Press 1 once.

George turns the Pole and the Energy beam now goes from Pole 1 to the left to Pole 5. Turn George and walk to the left and on to Pole 5.

At Pole 5 you press 2 twice on 1 so that the energy beam from Pole 5 goes down to Pole 4.

Walk down to Pole 4. When you reach Pole 4 you see that the energy beam now goes from Pole4 to Pole 8 to the left. That should not be.

Press 1 once to send the energy beam from Pole 4 to the right, to Pole 3.

Walk to the right towards Pole 3 but you don't have to go all the way. You can see that from pole 3 the energy beam now also goes up to pole 2 near the wall. So walk up to pole 2. At pole 2 you now press 3 times on 1 and ...... the energy beam, the "shooting beam", is now directed from pole 2 on the machine part and the beam will now push that Machine Part against the wall. The reddish niche is now free and you will also see a console in it.

Unfortunately, the Machine Part now blocks the left niche where that other Console can be found. The Machine Part must therefore be moved again.

Go back to Pole 4 and then press 2 once. From Pole 4 the energy beam then goes left again into the corner to Pole 8.

So now you have to go to Pole 8 and for this you have to walk in the direction of pole 6, which is diagonally below Pole 4. At Pole 8 you press 2 times on 1 so that the energy beam goes from Pole 8 to the left, to Pole 7. Go to Pole 7. The energy beam now enters the wall behind Pole 7. Press 1 once to send the energy beam from Pole 7 to Pole 6. Walk to Pole 6.

At Pole 6 you now see that the energy beam now goes from Pole 6 to the Machine Part, which is now against the wall and blocks the rear niche. This is good, but the energy beam must now be REVERSED so that it becomes a Tracter Beam again. So now you have to go back to the big Energy Cannon in the large cave. 

So go to the bottom right and back through the gate into the corridor and then continue to the right to the "Lightning Gate". After the short loading you walk through the "Lightning Gate" and then on to the cannon. Go back to the panel on the side of the cannon and stand in front of it again.

Now press 3 and the flow direction of the energy beam is reversed again. The beam is now again a Tracter Beam. 

Go back through the "Lightning Gate" and back to the Crystal Pole room and......

You see how the Machine Part is now pulled backwards towards Pole 6 and that rear niche with the rear console in it is now free again.

Walk back into the Crystal pole room and continue to the left until Pole 1. Then go left until George is just at pole 5. 

Then go Up and walk into the reddish niche with Left. Continue to the stone stairs and go up

We see how George goes back to the room of the Floor Puzzle, through a sliding door

Nico can now also leave the tiled floor room. Then George and Nico are again at the bottom of the stairs in the reddish niche of the Crystal Hall.

Go to the console that is against the left wall here. This is the Front Console. Press the console with 3.

You see a door and above the door a Circle with the Lightning Symbol. In the right half of the circle you see 4 lights come on briefly and then go out again.

Walk to the bottom of the screen. You will also see the left Console in the left niche.

Go to the Rear Console and stand in front of it. Also press this console with 3.

 

Again you see  that Circle and now you see 4 lights light up in the left half of the circle and these too don't stay lit.

That door, under the Circle, is at the rear right of the room, so in the corner behind pole 1. To open that door, all 8 lights in the circle must be lit and also stay lit. You now know that with the left Console you turn on the lights in the left half of the circle and with the right Console the lights in the right half of the circle. So you have to press BOTH Consoles simultaneously. So George can't do that alone, he needs Nico's help.

So walk back to the right console by the stairs. Stand in front of the console again and then open your inventory. Select Nico Collard and press 3.

George asks Nico to operate this console and Nico goes stand in front of the console. Walk back to the left console and stand in front of it again. Press 3 again.

George counts down, 1, 2, 3, NOW and George and Nico press their console simultaneously. The 8 lights in the circle come on and the door opens. Walk to the bottom of the screen and then turn to the right and walk all the way to the right side of the room, so to Pole1 and then go into the corner behind Pole 1 and go through the now opened door. Loading:

H: Cave with ledges

George and Nico end up in the last few caves. There are only ledges otherwise it is one deep abyss. Walk forwards and then go to the right to the edge of the upper ledge. You experience an earthquake again. Nico automatically jumps down the ledge and runs over the lower ledge to the right and enters the next cave through the next opening.

Jump down with 1 from the top ledge to the lower ledge and continue to the end to the right, then turn George over with Up. There is a narrow gap in front of the passage and in 3 you have the "jump over" symbol. So press 3 and George jumps over the crack into the next cave.

Follow the ledge to the right and then go around the corner. Then follow the ledge Up. You will see Nico standing at the end of the ledge and just before the entrance to a corridor. Continue until you reach Nico and climb up to Nico. Then walk to the gate. Loading:

How to open the door to the Crystal Cave:

Continue to the right. Nico stays where she is. George lands on brown floor tiles and at a closed door. Both the brown floor tiles and the door show the "Lightning Circle". Stand right in front of the closed door and look at the door with 4. George says that he sees no way to open the door.

Turn George around and walk back down to Nico. Stand next to Nico. In the wall, to the left of Nico, you will see a round hole in the column. Walk towards it and stand in front of it. Press 4 to view this round hole. George says he sees the "Lightning" symbol in this hole and he gives you a hint about the "Metal Plate. Standing in front of the round hole you now open your inventory and select the Metal Plate. Press 3 and George puts the Round Metal plate in the round hole.

The door slides open, but then the metal plate falls out of the hole and onto the floor and the door closes again. Now move George back and forth for a bit until you get the "Gripping Hand" in 3. Then press 3 to take the Metal Plate off the floor. George reports that the plate has become warm.

Stand right in front of the hole again, open your inventory again, select the Metal Plate again and press 3.George puts the Metal Plate back into the round wall hole and the door starts sliding up again. As soon as you see the "gears" appearing in 3 again, press 3 again ............. George now tries to keep the Metal Plate in the hole, but it only works a few seconds. George burns his hand and the plate falls out of the hole on the floor and the door closes again.

Make sure you have the "grabbing hand" in 3 again and then press 3 again to pick up the plate. Stand right in front of the round hole again, open your inventory again, select the Metal Plate again and press 3 and ...... George puts the plate in the hole for the third time and the door starts to open again. As soon as you see the "gears" in 3 again, quickly open your inventory and select the "Ancient Scarf" and press 3 .........

George uses the Scarf to protect his hand from the heat of the plate and this time he manages to keep the plate in the hole long enough so that the door stays open long enough for it to pass through. But George can't go through the door himself now, so he calls in Nico's help.....this goes all by itself....

George gives Nico the scarf and Nico now ensures that the door stays open ... Quickly now ...run to the right and go through the door and George enters the:

I: Crystal Cave:

Well, this is exactly the same kind of cave that George and Nico have been to in Paris, under the old Theater. The only difference is that there is no elevator now. Continue to the right to the Round Cobra Platform at the end of the "bridge". Above the platform the Alpha Stone floats in the energy mass. Press 3 and George grabs the Alpha Stone.

NB: If you have pressed 3, you will get a black screen for a moment and after that George is standing with his back to the round Cobra Platform. Just look for certainty in your inventory to see whether you actually have that Alpha Stone. Sometimes a bug occurs in the game and then George has not taken Alpha Stone.

Walk back over the bridge to the left and go back through the door into the corridor and continue to Nico. 

Nico now releases the Metal Plate and the door of the Crystal Cave closes again. George tells Nico about the crystal cave and the Alpha Stone.

SAVE YOUR GAME NOW 

J: Run like Hell

walk to the left and through the gate back into the Ledge cave. 

Continue to the left until George has jumped down on the lower ledge and then walk a little further to the left and,......

Long Movie:

During this movie, press and hold your SHIFT and LEFT / DOWN keys and keep them pressed to be able to follow Nico immediately when she runs away

Petra appears and she wants  the Key of Solomon, but George refuses to give it. Well. George no longer has this Key either. 

Then Petra decides to just pull the trigger but........Before she can kill George an earthquake happens and Petra falls over. 

You must be very fast now and you can't make any errors in the way you guide George through the cave during your run

If you are too slow or send George in the wrong direction, Petra and Nico will be shot by Petra.

FAST FAST FAST ... As soon as you regain control, Nico runs away to the left and she screams that George must follow her ......... Run to the left over the ledge and keep running while you keep adjusting George with your movement keys .......... During the first part of this run, a large pointy rock falls down at two places.

Make sure that George isn't hot by those falling rocks....Press your SHIFT + CURSOR LEFT + 3 keys at the same time and keep them pressed ....As soon as Nico shouts that they need to move on quickly, you run to the left with SHIFT plus LEFT to the end to the ledge and around the corner........In 3 the "Jump Over" Symbol will appear but ONLY if George ends up in the right spot.......

Because you already hold SHIFT + ARROW LEFT + 3 PRESSED, George will now jump over the gap ..... Nico does that automatically.

Continue to follow Nico, running, to the right and continue to the higher ledge.

Climb the higher ledge with 2 and run quickly to the left to the gate and you have made it.

NB: running goes particularly crazy in this game. You can run with Shift plus Arrow keys. So you have to hold down your Shift key plus the correct Arrow key at the same time. But George almost always runs in all directions except the direction he has to go to. It is best to keep your Shift plus Links pressed during the movie with Petra. Again, I have to tell you that I can not tell you exactly which arrow keys you should use in your run, I only guess a little. As mentioned, running is incredibly difficult in this game. I  had to do this Escape run about 20 times before I finally got through it.

George and Nico come out of the Omega Grotto, where Harry is still standing with the Jeep and with the Jeep they drive away and Petra.....well...
